Believe
"Belief [is] always the first step toward conviction...hold fast to what you already know and stand strong until additional knowledge comes...acknowledge your questions and concerns, but first and forever fan the flame of your faith, because all things are possible to them that believe." ("Lord, I Believe" by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland)

But If Not
This song is based on the "But if not" story found in Daniel 3, as well as my "but if not" experience of having several miscarriages over the past few years. I hope it brings some comfort to you in your own "but if nots". Please also refer to the "But If Not" talks by Elder Wickman and Elder Simmons. Elder Simmons says:
"Our God will deliver us from [trials], but if not, … we will have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, knowing that if we do all we can do, we will, in His time and in His way, be delivered and receive all that He has."

Catch the Wave
My sister asked me to write a song about missionary work and sharing the gospel. She suggested the talk "Catch the Wave" by Elder Russell M. Nelson as the basis for it. As I wrote the piano accompaniment for this song, I tried to capture the imagery of ocean waves rolling gently into shore and then gradually building and building, just as this "unprecedented wave…of missionary work is sweeping the entire earth."

Linked in Love (A Trekking Song)
My husband and I were asked to be ma and pa for our stake youth pioneer trek in 2015. The trek theme was "Generations Linked in Love" and the theme we chose for our trek family was "Keep Your Fire Burning". Using these two themes, I decided to write a song that we could teach our trek family along the trail. As reference I used an address from Elder Ballard.

My Faith is an Anchor
One of my favorite scriptures is Ether 12:4 in the Book of Mormon. This song is based on that scripture, as well as a quote from Elder M. Russell Ballard: “Your testimony of Jesus Christ is the most important anchor that you can have to help hold you, steadfast and immovable, to principles of righteousness, regardless of the challenges and temptations that may come in the future.”

My Healer
This song is based on Elder Neil L. Andersen's talk "Wounded" from the October 2018 General Conference. It focuses on the idea that Jesus Christ is our personal Good Samaritan. As Elder Andersen explained, "He comes to us when others pass us by. With compassion, He places His healing balm on our wounds and binds them up. He carries us. He cares for us. He bids us, 'Come unto me … and I shall heal [you].' "

Never Alone
There have been times in my life when I have felt alone. At one such time, I read an address by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland that helped me remember that we are never alone - "...Because Jesus walked such a long, lonely path utterly alone, we do not have to do so....Trumpeted from the summit of Calvary is the truth that we will never be left alone nor unaided, even if sometimes we may feel that we are.” I know this is true!

On Our Road to Damascus
This song was inspired by an address from President Dieter F. Uchtdorf. “There are some who feel that unless they have an experience similar to Saul’s or Joseph Smith’s, they cannot believe…Instead of taking small steps of faith on the path of discipleship, they want some dramatic event to compel them to believe…The truth is, those who diligently seek to learn of Christ eventually will come to know Him…This can be our experience if we move forward with faith and do not wait too long on the road to Damascus."

On the Covenant Path
This song was written to go along with my stake's trek theme this year. However, its message is applicable to all of us who are doing our best each day to stay on the covenant path! As President Russell M. Nelson said, "Keep on the covenant path. Your commitment to follow the Savior by making covenants with Him and then keeping those covenants will open the door to every spiritual blessing and privilege available to men, women, and children everywhere."
Note: I also have a simplified version of this on my "Children's Songs" page.

Teach My Heart to See
This song was inspired by an address from President Dieter F. Uchtdorf. "Faith is trust—trust that God sees what we cannot and that He knows what we do not. Sometimes, trusting our own vision and judgment is not enough."

The Load
This song is based on a story told by Elder Bednar in his talk "Bear Up Their Burdens with Ease". He tells about a guy driving in the wintertime up in the mountains. His truck got stuck in the snow and he couldn't get out no matter what he tried. So he decided to chop firewood, and he completely filled the back of his truck. He tried again to drive forward and he was able to get free. Elder Bednar relates this to our lives and how the "load" we each carry (our trials, responsibilities, challenges, etc) actually helps us progress and move forward. And that if we turn to Christ, He will "share our load and bring us home".
